Over 30,000 fishermen and $200,000 in cash and prizes makes the Red Snapper World Championship Presents the Saltwater Series fishing tournament a unique celebration of Alabama’s recreational saltwater fishing. Between now and August 15, 2009 Orange Beach, Alabama is the headquarters for this event which awards prizes for catching King Mackerel, Cobia, Tuna, Grouper, Amberjack, Triggerfish, Vermilion Snapper, Speckled Trout, Sheepshead. On June 1st Red Snapper season begins and this signature fish will be the star of the tournament. Proceeds from the tournament are matched 3-1 by the state of Alabama for the establishment, and continued maintenance, of the largest saltwater reef building program in the world. Even if you don't fish in the event it's really cool to visit the weigh-in at Zeke's Marina in Orange Beach and see the amazing fish as they arrive on the dock.
A daily tournament ticket must be purchased to participate and the cost is minimal, especially considering the big prizes at stake. The next step is to charter a boat that is participating in the tournament.
